Underwater work is planned on the surface. This episode is about everything that happens before a diver leaves the ladder — and the discipline that keeps the day uneventful.

We talk through project preparation and risk assessment, the toolbox talk, the dive plan, lock-out and isolation of intakes and pumps, and the roles that must always be filled: supervisor, standby diver, tender and communications.

We also address the conditions that dominate inland work — current, shipping movements, cold, and visibility close to zero — and how emergency procedures are rehearsed so that a recall, a fouled umbilical or a lost comms line stays a routine event rather than an incident.
