Assembly work

Underwater assembly is precision work done blind. Fenders, ladders, guide rails, gate seals, pipe sections, cable ducts, anchor plates and precast elements all have to end up within tolerance, bolted to the right torque, on a structure the diver can usually only feel. The difference between a smooth installation and a lost day is almost always the preparation done on the quay before anyone enters the water.

We trial-fit dry wherever the component allows it, agree torque values and tooling in advance, and rig lifting so the element arrives at the diver already close to its final position. Underwater the team follows a fixed sequence with topside confirmation at each hold point: located, aligned, engaged, torqued, checked. The supervisor sees the helmet camera and signs off each step before the next begins.

Assembly rarely stands alone: it is a link in a contractor's programme, between a crane movement and a concrete pour. We plan around that, attend the site's daily coordination, work under its permit-to-work system and hand back the interface with photographic evidence so the main contractor can close the activity in their own quality file.
