Inside inshore diving

Below the waterline. Episode one: inside inshore diving. In this episode we look at what professional inshore diving actually involves, and how it differs from recreational and offshore work.

We talk about surface-supplied diving, where the diver breathes through an umbilical from the surface and stays in constant voice contact with the supervisor. We discuss working in near-zero visibility, where the job is done by feel and by procedure rather than by sight.

We walk through the roles in a dive team: the working diver, the standby diver, the tender and the supervisor, and why each of them matters on every single dive.

Finally we look at the civil infrastructure our teams work on across the Benelux: quay walls, locks, bridge piers, pumping stations and cooling water intakes.
